For senior Nick Wichser, the game can’t get much easier than this.

The fifth-year left fielder out of Waukesha West continued his torrid hitting by reaching safely for the eighteenth and nineteenth straight times in Wednesday night’s double-header which pitted the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee against non-conference foe Chicago State.

In the first game, Wichser was a perfect 2-for-2, with one RBI and one run. The rest of the team seemed to feed off his leadership, scoring at least two runs in the second through the fifth innings, grabbing a commanding 9-0 lead after the top of the fourth.

The Cougars got four runs back in the bottom of the frame, however, and just as the Panthers appeared to feed off each other at the plate in the early portion of the game, they seemed to be feeding off each other in the field as they committed seven errors.

The miscues cost Milwaukee the lead, as CSU plated nine unearned runs to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.

The Panthers were able to tack on one more in the extra eighth frame, and junior Craig Meier got through the bottom half of the inning, striking out the final two batters to get the win.

In the nightcap, Wichser continued his approach and tied a career-high with four RBIs, going 2-for-4 and adding a run of his own.

UWM was able to break open a close game in the fourth inning, plating four runs all with two outs to grab an 8-4 lead. The Cougars clawed their way back, but an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning secured the Panthers a victory.

The sweep continued the Panthers’ domination over CSU, as they have taken 16 of the last 20 games. The victories allow UWM to forget about their heart-breaking losses at Southern Illinois the previous weekend as they head into the home opener of their season.
