Havener tops school mark

Sophomore Erin Havener’s name is now number one in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee record books for the pole vault, after clearing 12-1 ½ this weekend at the Big Blue Classic hosted by Eastern Illinois.
Havener surpassed Lynda Thiel, who now stands in second with a height of 12-0 ½. Havener finished third in the meet while teammate Jes Weyandt also beat her personal best by clearing 11-7 ¾.
Freshman Chelsea Von Ruden also had a good day, clearing 5-6 in the high jump to take second in the meet and move up to fourth in school history. Jenni Saarinen finished fourth with a height of 5-4.
Junior Beth Zimmerman took third in the long jump with a leap of 38-9 1/2, with sophomore teammate Reigna Pierce not too far behind, taking fifth with a jump of 38-0 ¼.
Sophomore Kelsey Conrad lead the way for the sprinters, finishing fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.39 and third in the 200m with a personal best of 24.75.
On the men’s side it was the 4x100 and 4x400 team’s that lead the way. The 4x100 team ran a time of 40.87, which is just 19 hundredths of a second off of the school record that was set last year. The 4x400 team also had a good showing posting a time of 3:11.95 which is only .83 off of the school record.
Individually it was sophomore Tyler Bucholz who led the way for the Panthers, winning the 200m with a time of 21.39 a personal best. Bucholz continues to inch close to the school record of 21.03. Sophomore Isiah Adams also cracked the top five, finishing fourth in the 200m with a time of 21.96 which puts him in eighth place in school history.
The Panthers had their best showing in the 110m hurdles, with three Panthers finishing in the top five. Senior Justin Bohler lead the way with a time of 14.95 to take second, while Sophomore Josh Zill took third with 15.10 and junior Adam Schlies rounded out the group in fifth with a time of 15.35.
In the jumps, senior Darren Cole led the way again taking third with a jump of 48-8 ¾, with Zill hitting a personal best of 47-6 ¼ to make his way to fourth in school history.
Other notable top five finishers where senior Larry Enhorn in the shot and Sean Jaehnig in the vault. Enhorn threw a personal best in the shot at 50-8 ¼ for third, with Jaehnig clearing a height of 14-7 ¼ to finish fifth.
The Panthers will be back in action this weekend when they head to Knoxville, Tennessee for the Sea Relays.
