One of the most memorable scenes from the film “Superbad” is the infamous “dick drawing scene.” Seeing the fourth-grade Seth working on his penile masterpieces is something that warms the heart yet unsettles the stomach.

Fans of the film, and there are many, cite their favorite penises whenever the film is mentioned. Questions arise about the artistic skill of the 9 to 10-year-old Seth and his skillfully drawn shafts.

Hardcore fans always wondered how they could they get their hands on these cock-filled masterpieces. Who wouldn’t want to get their hands on their own Tiananmen Square Penis and hang it proudly on the fridge?

But, lucky enough for them, the powers that be that control the “Superbad” name have decided to release a coffee table book with all the drawings in their phallic glory.

The book contains a foreword by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the film’s writers. The forward explains how the duo came up with the idea of the scene. And no, one of them did not draw crazy amounts of dicks as a child, sadly.

Then there is an introduction by the artist of all the penis-filled pages, David Goldberg, and yes there is a relation. He talks about how he prepared himself to illustrate so many phallic drawings. He describes his trip to the Icelandic Phallological Museum and his study of reproductive organs.

After that it’s nothing but 81 different phallic artistic works. Many of the film’s best penises are in the book.

The book is a fun piece of the film to own. Yet, the pictures seem not as impressive since they all have been scaled down or cropped to fit in the small CD-case-sized book. I really think a fan of the film would have paid more for a book with the full-sized drawings. The dick drawings all were notebook sketches done by a small child. So they all must have been eight and half by 11 inches. It would be logical that the book be near the size of a notebook, or even get this made to look like a notebook, and even the fabled Ghostbusters lunchbox that all the sketches were kept in.

Another flaw of the book is that it is not the complete collections of dick drawings. One wouldn’t complain, but one of the films most prominent dicks, the dick that hits Becca in the foot, “the big veiny triumphant bastard” is missing from the collection.

This book is hardly worth the $15 price tag to anyone but a true fan. But I’m sure all the scenesters that buy books from Urban Outfitters will gobble this up, much like they did with books filled with Ligers.
