“*I’m disappointed in the manner in which this agreement was terminated.*”
- Kyle Duerstein

Citing a breach of contract, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Broadcast Club will no longer be able to produce its live feed of Student Association (SA) Senate meetings from the senate floor, effective immediately.

A stipulation in the agreement struck between the organizations before the school year stated that the Broadcast Club had to produce an archived copy of each meeting to the Student Activities Office (SAO) within a day. This was not followed and led to the termination of the agreement, according to Senate Speaker Tyler Draheim.

“In regards to filming senate meetings, I talked to SAO and they said they had never received one of those (copies). So I took it into my hands to terminate the contract,” said Draheim.

Broadcast Club member Kyle Duerstein claims that he had an agreement with former Speaker Dan Bahr to give him the archived copy, and is baffled as to why the club can no longer operate on the senate floor.

“I don’t know what the reason is for so abruptly ending the relationship,” said Duerstein. “I’m disappointed in the manner in which this agreement was terminated.”

Duerstein indicated that the club will abide by the decision and film from the gallery, insisting that they were simply attempting to provide a service.

“We are not there to start any controversy. I just think that it is an important service for students to know what their government is doing, making it available to see online while it’s happening,” said Duerstein.

Draheim acknowledged hearing of the agreement between Bahr and Duerstein, but still feels that the original contract was violated.

“As far as I’m concerned, the original agreement is what we should abide by, and it wasn’t abided by,” said Draheim.

Draheim also stated that he would like to see more students attend the meetings in person as opposed to viewing the live feed.

“We really want to encourage people to attend the meetings and experience the whole thing,” said Draheim.

The next SA Senate meeting is slated for March 9.

I would prefer to have the meetings recorded as they previously were. The system seemed to be a sign of good faith that student representatives were in fact representing the students and people could watch each meeting if they questioned that.

I also agree that more people should come and experience live senate meetings, but in reality I know that only those who have an interest in any particular meeting will consider attending.
