“It really offers students advice on their health care or other concerns they may have.”

Walking to Norris Health Center can seem like an endless journey while your nose is running and the cold Wisconsin wind sends shivers up your spine.

Thankfully, Norris has lent one of its registered nurses, Colleen Bernstein, to Sandburg's aid. Students can look for her sitting at her table in the Sandburg cafeteria, pamphlets in hand, ready to answer your questions. This new walk-up clinic is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from November through March.

RiverView does not have access to this type of service, however if proven effective in Sandburg, there may be a similar service there next winter.

Although no examinations are offered and prescriptions cannot be filled here, Bernstein hopes that students will utilize her knowledge to get on the road to better health.

“It really offers students advice on their health care or other concerns they may have,” she says.

Pamphlets include anything from the common cold to STDs and mental illness.”

And, not to mention, Bernstein's vast range of experience and training gives makes her a human book full of ample answers for students.

“Each time I am there I get one to two students to stop by, so hopefully it is a good addition to Sandburg,” Bernstein states.

This is the first time the walk-up clinic has been offered. It will be re-evaluated at the end of the cold season in March to determine if this service should be considered for future school years. She welcomes anyone with questions to stop by and speak confidentially with her.

“Please don't feel shy,” Bernstein says.

If this sounds like a service you could use, even for the smallest question, help keep this service available by showing your interest. A trip down to her may save you some time and money by avoiding having to walk over to Norris and purchase a prescription she may have a home remedy for.

A Spanish proverb says, “A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools.” Let's find the time to clean out the toolbox. Bernstein knows how.
