Q: Did you ever put any thought into how you might decorate your room before moving in?
M.A.: Yeah, my mom and I went on a shopping spree at Kohls and we bought a bunch of stuff for my room there before move-in.
M.S.: I knew I wanted to have bright colors and a lot of my personality in the room. I'm a person who loves to feel like my space represents who I am. I always wanted some sort of organization as well. Lots of pre move-in shopping!
Q: How do you and your roommate’s personal styles differ? How are they alike?
M.S.: We both have our own twist to our styles. We both have bright colors and pictures. I'm a bit more organized than she is. Not a neat freak, but I like when everything has a place and know where it is.
M.A.: I think we both add our own kind of twist to everything, but in my opinion, Michelle is just a little less daring than I am.
Q: Describe your personal style in 5 words or less.
M.S.: Random, spontaneous, unique
M.A.: Not consistent and Unique
Q: What do you wish your dorm room came with when you moved in and why?
M.S.: An amazing bathroom. A sink and toilet separate from the shower, a good shower head with hot water, a bit more space, some shelves for our stuff, and blue walls with a new mat!
M.A.: Ha! A warm shower… the water is always freezing when I am in there!
Q: Have you ever asked your roommate to pick up her mess? If not, are you ever tempted to?
M.S.: No and no. She sometimes has stuff piled up on her side of the room by her closet and chair, but it gets picked up by the time she gets back from class.
M.A.: Never! She is way more organized than I am
Q: Describe your roommate in 5 words or less.
M.S.: Considerate and independent
M.A.: Kind and open-minded
Q: What are some pieces of advice you could give other roommates on getting along, respecting personal space and personal style?
M.S.: Try and set up separate shower schedules. We never get in the way of each other in the bathroom in the morning because I shower at night and brush my teeth in the morning before she gets up, so she can do her thing when she wakes up. Don't feel obligated to talk. You can be independent, and still talk once in a while. Keep any mess to your side of the room.
M.A.: If a problem arises talk about it to your roommate at a time when you can be calm and collected. Defiantly do NOT tell your problem to everybody else before you talk to your roommate about it!
Q: Anything you want to add, now that you are in the spotlight?
M.S.: Have fun! Meeting new people in and around the dorms has been the best part! I love being out-going and fun-loving, and it will take you a long way in a community living environment.
