Records fall at Panthers Home Meet

Two University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee track and field records fell this weekend at the Panthers lone home dual meet at the Klotsche Center.

Junior’s Adam Schlies had a fantastic day winning the 60m hurdles as well as taking top honors in the long jump with a record breaking performance. Schlies’s jump of 23’10 ¾ topped the old mark of 23’6 ¾ by four inches.

Fellow Panthers Larry Enhorn, Sean Jaehnig and Quinn Mongoven also brought home first place finishes for UWM in field events. Enhorn won the shot put, while Jaehnig cleared 15-1 in the volt and Mongoven cleared a final height of 6-9 ¾ in the high jump.

Sophomore Tyler Bucholz also took home a first place in the 200m with a time of 22.05.

The men’s team swept all four opposing teams to post a 4-0 record and win the meet.

Not to be out done, Beth Zimmerman of the women’s team won both of her events and also had a recorded breaking day. Zimmerman topped her own record of 39’0 ½ with an amazing leap of 39’9 ¾. Zimmerman also just barely missed breaking the long jump record falling just a ¼ of an inch short with a leap of 19’5 ¼ .

Sophomore Kelsey Conrad also brought home two first place finishes, winning the 60m and 200m. Her time of 7.73 puts her at number two in the record books by just .10. She also moved into third place in the record books in the 200m with a time of 25.19.

Other first place finishers for the women’s team included Erin Havener in the vault, Chealse Von Ruden in the high jump and Shannon Butchen in the 400m.

The women’s team also swept all four opposing teams to win the meet. Both teams will head to Ohio next weekend to defend their Horizon League Indoor Conference Championships.
