Typically I try to be humble about my current situation, because I know I am very fortunate to be having the experience I am, studying in Milan and interning for a renowned designer; but with Fashion Week coming to a close, I feel I must brag a little.
After working countless 12 hour days, the Maurizio Pecoraro fashion show went off with out a hitch, and has been receiving wonderful reviews (and I got to borrow thousands of dollars of Pecoraro to swathe myself in, even a mink coat). The editor-in-chief of American Elle magazine even stopped by the show room to check out the accessories which accompanied the beautiful pieces of the Fall/Winter 2009 collection.
Also, it was great fun getting to share my work with the five other girls in my study abroad program, as I was able to get them on the list to see the show. Additionally, all of the guests in attendance were able to take in my writing skills, having been asked to write the English version of the press release handed out announcing the current collection.
The collection itself is simply stunning. Jewel toned sequin dresses created a dazzling finale, whereas more subdued tones such as “Aubergine” and “Bordeaux” were the perfect palate of colors for a wardrobe of (expensive) winter essentials.
As the curtain closed, and after Maurizio popped out to take a bow, the six of us wandered back stage to sip champagne and talk with Maurizio and Vito, the partners behind the Maurizio Pecoraro empire. We all planned out which outfits we wanted to take home with us, and ogled at the 15 year-old Amazonian models. Although they appeared to be just skin and bones, we contemplated that at just 15 they have not really had a chance to develop yet…but that is for a whole other conversation. So, moving on.
After dinner, and later that evening, I went with three male models to the Dsquared after show party. Being invitation only, the door was tightly controlled, with security not wavering on this issue. Maybe it was because Fergie was the special guest in attendance? I can truly say I have never been to a party with so many famous models running around, Fergie dancing across the dance floor and randomly breaking into song, not to mention being in such close proximity to Dan and Dean Caten, the twin designers for Dsquared. Did I mention that the guys I went with modeled in the Dsquared, Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry shows this season?
What a crazy 24 hours. Running on just four hours of sleep, having worked another 10 hours, and post dinner and drinks at the Four Seasons, I am writing this article hardly believing a word of it. I think I just got sprinkled with a little Milan magic!
