Patty is a no BS type of gal. Her menu is small and to the point, the way it should be.

There’s a new girl in town and guess what…she can cook. Her name is Patty and she is not your ordinary girl-next-door. Patty entices the hungry burger-eater with her pin-up girl good looks and modern flair. She’ll serve you breakfast, vegetarian entrees, shakes, fries, and of course, juicy burgers.

Only operating one other successful location near a college campus in Chicago, Patty Burger’s location at 1952 Farwell Ave. ($3-$8), here in Milwaukee makes it the perfect campus getaway for University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee students.

Patty’s menu gets right to the point, the way it should be. You have your staples: Burgers, chicken and portabella sandwiches, fries and milkshakes are all on the menu. They also serve up a mean bowl of chili and an egg sandwich breakfast, any time you want it.

On my first trip to Patty Burger, I walked in to a modern and sterile looking environment. The dining area was adorned with chilly stainless steel and the walls in a pale gray color with perfectly painted polka-dots. Not your average burger joint. Theare are NO framed pictures of a young Elvis on the wall and a juke box in the corner.

The place was empty at around lunchtime on a Saturday. I walked up to the row of men --not wearing traditional diner white triangular hats, but rather black baseball caps-- waiting to take my dining companion and my orders. The menu is sparse but that does not mean that it didn’t satisfy.

I ordered a chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and brown mustard. I waited about ten minutes for my order, but it was well worth the wait. The chicken was actually moist. I was completely surprised. This level of grilling perfection is usually…well, not perfected at a fast food burger joint.

The avocado was green and fresh and the extra $0.99 was well worth it. All in all, my chicken sandwich was a great way to cure an empty stomach.

My dining companion, a vegetarian, ordered the grilled portabella sandwich slathered with “the sauce.” Patty’s own creation of mayo, pickles, mustard and some other unspecified ingredients make up the tangy sauce that they call their own.

The portabella sandwich was warm and slightly crisp. The perfect substitution to meat—the vegetarian selection at Patty Burger is simply divine.

Staying open until 3:30 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Patty draws in a different kind of crowd. The place can get packed, but at 2:00 a.m., who really cares?

If you don't wait to sweat the crowds, Patty has you covered. She delivers until 3:30 a.m. on weekends.

The staff at Patty Burger is nothing less than friendly and - with the slightly tipsy crowd rolling in after midnight – they are more than patient.
