The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents are forming a committee to look into uses of segregated fees, which all students must pay as a portion of their tuition. It will consist of five UW System students and five UW administrators.
Budget cuts to UW system could hurt
As the state budget process wears on and students continue to wait for financial aid, Senate Majority Leader Judy Robson warns $125 million in cuts to the University of Wisconsin system would be highly detrimental. The cuts, currently part of the Assembly’s budget, could potentially eliminate the UW law school, UW ownership of public television and radio, and increases in financial aid, states a press release from Robson. Robson also said the cuts could affect the hiring of addition security officers at UW-Green Bay and UW-Eau Claire, which both need the extra forces as part of Gov. Jim Doyle’s proposed task force after the Virginia Tech shooting.
