With a new semester come new classes, weather changes, and the unfortunate early waking for that 8 a.m. class. Perhaps the last thing residents want to do right now is make peace with a brand new roommate, but some residents are finding that the change wasn’t all bad.
Jodi Millies, a resident of Sandburg, recently moved to a double room on the 16th floor of the north tower after having a single last semester.
“My new roommate and I are a perfect match. I moved from a single to a double, and I love the extra space, and her company,” Millies said.
Residents may find living in a single convenient at times, but in the end some miss the companionship of a roommate. So after four months of living in close quarters with a complete stranger, many suites and rooms are being rearranged for the new semester.
Not only are a large amount of previous residents changing roommates and suites, but the towers have welcomed plenty of new faces as well. Transfer students will now find themselves adapting to their new surroundings, and will hopefully gain a positive experience from their stay.
As many know, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is known for the surplus of students in demand of residence hall housing, so it’s a good thing that the brand new RiverView residence hall in the Riverwest neighborhood just opened for residents. Over 400 students get to reside in a state of the art facility with many opportunities at their fingertips.
Hopefully with the new members and various room changes, Sandburg and RiverView’s residents will enjoy the next few months with new experiences, friends and activities to balance out their academic life.
Some may think moving rooms, towers or even buildings is a stressful transition, but others are excited for the new experience and will find this semester more surprising than stressful. Good luck and welcome aboard to those who will be transitioning.
