Students who are used to the plush seats of the B.O.S.S. mini-van or sitting next to strangers on the bus, will have a more familiar feeling when it comes to the resident hall shuttle.

In an effort to create easy and stress free transportation to all of UWM’s city wide living quarters, University Housing has implemented a free shuttle service that makes only three stops around Milwaukee.

The UWM Campus Library, Kenilworth Square and the new RiverView dorms on North Ave. and Humboldt are the only allocated pick up and drop off points of the shuttle service. All of the University Housing staff, residents and their guests are invited and encouraged to take part in the 24-hour shuttle.

“The shuttle bus service was started (a week before classes start) to allow the drivers to practice the route,” said Scott Peak, Director of University Housing.

According to the free bus schedule the entire route, from RiverView to Kenilworth and then to campus takes 15-18 minutes according to the preliminary bus schedule.

This is the third endeavor to provide free transportation to UWM students. The U-Pass allows all students to ride the Milwaukee County Transit system buses for free anywhere in the city.

The Be On The Safe Side initiative, or B.O.S.S., is one phone number many students have on speed dial. B.O.S.S. operates its own student shuttle system catering to those who like to get out into the city of Milwaukee or live a further from campus. They have a ten mile radius stretching as far as Brady and Water Street. Unlike the new resident hall shuttle and MCTS, B.O.S.S. does not operate 24- hours.

University Housing has decided to employ the Lamers Bus Company, commented Peak. The big yellow buses have ample seating to cater to all current residents and the 400 new residents that now reside in RiverView, The 24-hour shuttle is up and running. University Housing staff wish to remind students that in order to ride the shuttle, they must show the driver their I.D. before they can take a seat.

Students can pick up a shuttle schedule at the Parking and Transit Office in the Union and online at http://www4.uwm.edu/housing/transportation.
