The schedules for every place in Sandburg that serves food will be drastically changed.
If perhaps for some inane reason you or someone you know decides to stay in Sandburg for the winter interim, there are some very important things you should know – namely how sparse food service will be during the wintry weeks between semesters, as well as the extra rules and regulations that are going to be enforced.
Basically, the schedules for every place in Sandburg that serves food will be drastically changed. The cafeteria will close on Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. and won’t return to its regular hours of operation until the Jan. 22. With that said, it will be open on Jan. 19 and 20 for students returning for the spring semester.
A continental breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Then on the 21st the times for the continental breakfast and lunch will remain the same, but the dinner hours will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. instead.
The Emporium will close at 3 p.m. on Dec. 21 and won’t resume its normal hours until Jan. 22. Luckily, it will be open during winter break to provide life’s necessities to all. From the Jan. 2 – 18 it will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Then on the 19th and 20th it’ll be open from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. and then the 21st it will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight.
Unfortunately, Palm Gardens won’t be open during the break to provide greasy food and goodness to the remaining students. The Grind’s hours will also be more than severely limited.
In fact, the Sandburg Grind will only be open on Dec. 21 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it won’t reopen until Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Jan. 21 the Grind will be operational from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. before returning to its normal business hours the very next day.
As for the rules that are to be enforced during this time of snow and limited food options, they are the same as any normal day with a few additions. The only people who can stay in Sandburg Hall during the winter break (for free this year) are those that will be returning for the spring semester.
And even then, residents are only allowed to occupy the space that they have been assigned, which means that you can’t completely conquer your roommate’s half of the room during the month off. That last rule may seem a little odd, but there will be 24-hour security monitors in the building to ensure order is maintained.
Part of maintaining that order is having guests registered at all times and promptly escorted out of the building if they break the rules. Residents will even be expected to swipe their ID cards every time they enter the building.
