Some people have the money to be able to dress up every day, some people have the ambition and some just don’t give a damn.
As the lazy days leave us and the sunny hours become shorter and colder, so too do students’ toleration for trying to impress people. Face it, the last thing on your mind when you’re getting ready for your Friday class is what pair of jeans you are going to wear.
At the same time, it’s something some people continually think about. Everyone knows that one person who showers every morning before class and always looks like they walked out of a modeling advertisement.
Well, the lines have been drawn. Who really benefits the most? The people who dress up, or the people who don’t really care?
Time tables
Time is probably the most precious commodity a college student has. Some people are really good at wasting it; others are adept at using it wisely. In the case of getting up and getting ready in the morning, both wasting and using can be applied at the same time.
Sleeping in can be looked at in these two ways: You are wasting the day away by sleeping an extra half hour and not showering, or you are wisely sleeping in to be more mentally alert. Weird, huh?
Sure, people can shower in 15 minutes or less, but if you’re like me, you relish the warm water and loathe coming out into the cold hallway when you’re done.
Time is precious, and notions of spending it wisely differ from person to person. I like my sleep. Some people don’t. Those who say, “Go to bed earlier and wake up earlier” obviously don’t get the point. Just because you go to bed sooner doesn’t mean you’ll fall asleep faster. Your body does have a biological clock of sorts, you know.
Hey beautiful!
So, you woke up early and got ready to look good for…who? Your professor? Please, that mini-skirt isn’t going to get you an A in the class. Trying to impress your friends? Really, if they are your friends they won’t care what you look like. I would like to think the world hasn’t become that shallow, although I could be wrong.
Sure, you can feel really good in nice clothes, but if all you’re doing is going to class, aren’t your pajamas sufficient? Or sweat pants?
In the time it took you to get ready, you could have done a multitude of things such as eaten, slept or checked your e-mail. Now you have no time to do any of those things because you spent 45 minutes bathing, doing your hair and finding the right shoes to go with your shirt. This isn’t just a girl thing, either. Guys are just as guilty.
Verdict
Granted, you can’t look like you just woke up all the time. If you have a job or a meeting or something of that sort then it’s important to make a good impression. That being said, who are you trying to impress by going to your 300-student lecture all dressed up?
Some people have the money to be able to dress up every day, some people have the ambition and some just don’t give a damn. When I want to dress up, I’ll do it when it’s called for. I don’t think going to class is a top reason to get super dressed up in the morning. Being a little lazy and wearing sweat pants is the way to go.
