Third District Ald. Michael S. D’Amato announced Nov. 26 that he will not run for a fourth term on the Milwaukee Common Council.

D’Amato served as alderman for Milwaukee’s East Side and Riverwest neighborhoods since 1996 as chair of the judiciary and Legislation and Zoning.

“It has been an immense honor to serve the citizens of the City of Milwaukee and the 3rd District for the past 12 years,” D’Amato said in a City of Milwaukee news release. “However, the time is now right to move on in my professional life.”

D’Amato has introduced and passed hundreds of pieces of legislation that have ranged from ethics reform to re-writing the city’s 75-year-old zoning code over the past three terms.

D’Amato served as legislative assistant to Larraine McNamara-McGraw prior to being elected Alderman.

His aid, Sam McGovern-Rowen, will be running in the upcoming April 2008 common council election.

Sam Rowen will be just as anti-student and anti-UWM growth as D'Amato.
