It’s that time of year again – many students are calling family and making plans for the holidays. If you’re expecting out-of-town guests to visit campus in the next couple months, the university has a guest housing option that you should consider.
The Kenilworth Square building, located about one mile south of campus, offers apartment-style guest housing for family members of University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee students.
When the university first turned the Kenilworth building into upperclassmen apartments, the site did not fill to maximum capacity. University Housing decided to make the unused apartments into accommodations for UWM’s out-of-town visitors, and they have been popular ever since.
Today the Kenilworth Square building offers 10 two-bedroom apartments specifically for the use of students’ families who come from a distance to visit. An 11th apartment is available for guest faculty and speakers who are visiting the campus – the faculty apartment has one bedroom and an office.
Each of the 11 apartments comes with a fully furnished living room, kitchen (appliances included) and bathroom with shower. Kenilworth guests also have access to the building’s lounge and fitness facilities, laundry service and conference rooms.
Kenilworth Square is located on the 30 bus route, which travels directly to campus, making it easy for guests to meet their students in the residence halls, Union, etc.
In order to reserve a Kenilworth apartment individuals must be 22 years or older and either be visiting a UWM student or on official university business.
Laurie Thibault of University Housing stressed that not just anyone can stay in the Kenilworth building.
“The people who stay must have a significant relationship to campus,” Thibault said.
To reserve an apartment or for more information, those interested can contact the University Housing office at (414) 229-6588 or email Laurie Thibault at ldt@uwm.edu.
