New SA policies * SA members can not serve on student court and senate or executive branch * Student Activities Office is not allowed to question previously approved money * The Legal Clinic Advisory Committee was formed to oversee legal clinic funding * SA will begin featuring senators of the month as role models

In an effort to clean up the Student Association’s (SA) reputation, the new SA President Robert Grover signed several pieces of legislation which concentrate on accountability in the different branches of student government.

The first policy signed, written by Speaker Daniel Bahr, deals with protecting students who go through the student court by not allowing justices to sit on the bench and also be involved in the senate or executive branch.

The Student Activities Office (SAO) Accountability Act policy was written and passed after complaints from students in campus organizations which have had trouble receiving money from the SAO. Under the new law, SAO is not allowed to question requested allocations from organizations if approved by Student Finance Committee (SFC) or the Student Appropriations Committee.

An investigation will be prompted if SAO fails to comply with giving student organizations the approved money. Also, the SFC will draw up regulations for the SAO since the SAO receives some funding from SFC.

There was also the creation of the Legal Clinic Advisory Committee, which will oversee the legal clinic’s funding. The committee will be made up of three members who may or may not be a senator and are also enrolled for at least one credit at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Another way SA is trying to improve morale and trust in the student government is by showcasing senators who exceed expectations. The executive committee chose Tobin Huibregtse as August’s senator role model of the month.
