Sneak peek: spring bridal fashion

A preview for the matrimony minded

By Michelle Holtz

It’s that special day: your wedding day. You can only hope that everything will be perfect and that you will look stunning.

The best way to plan a perfect wedding and buy the perfect dress is to be on top of the fashions. The newest wedding fashions for spring 2007 are already buzzing around the nation. The public doesn’t know about them yet, but the bridal world definitely does.

The National Bridal Market was held in Chicago at the Merchandise Mart from Oct. 7 -10. The market is only open to exhibitors and buyers — distributing companies and bridal shop owners.

Here is your ticket into the market to help you dream up your big day, come spring or a future date.

Color

The color of the season is ivory. Not many brides look flattering in bright white, and ivory is less intense, softening your look.

Ruching

Ruching, also called pick-up, is still popular from this fall. Ruching is when the dress is gathered in different places to give the dress more movement and flow. Allure Bridals of Bartlett, Tenn. has many dresses featuring this style.

Beads

Full-beaded bodices paired with ruching or a simple straight bottom will be popular as well. Beading gives an elegant glitz to a dress that a plain bodice doesn’t provide.

Feathers

Higher-fashion dresses feature feathers this season. Simpler tops are paired with feather-like fabric on the bottom to create a European look. Anjolique Bridal of Niagara Falls, N.Y. had many couture dresses for the adventurous bride.

Lace

Lace is key. If you don’t like beading or ruching, lace is also big this season. Some dresses have it only on the top or the lining the bottom edge of a dress, while other dresses feature long lace sleeves or full lace overlays. There is probably a version of any style you like with lace on it this season, if you choose to go that direction.

Now that you know what will be in the bridal stores in spring, you can plan the rest of your wedding now. Best wishes to all the brides-to-be!
