Admirals sink Manitoba
Win is first home victory
By Curtis Claassen
Led by a stellar defensive performance, the Milwaukee Admirals put together their first Bradley Center victory Friday night against the Manitoba Moose to even their record at 2-2 in the young season.
Goalie Scott Reid made 24 saves to post his first ever American Hockey League shutout and helped lead the Admirals to a 2-0 win.
The Admirals have now won two straight after losing their first two games on the year.
Paul Brown scored the eventual winning goal early on at 4:15 in the first period off a wild scramble that Brown stuffed in the back of the net. The Admirals out-shot the Moose 12-6 in the first period and the goal was part in thanks to a double minor penalty assessed to Manitoba’s Ryan at the 5:52 mark.
The Admirals once again out-shot the Moose 13-8 in the second period, but Manitoba had a number of point-blank shots that Reid denied.
The third period didn’t see much action until the final anxious moments when Manitoba pulled its goalie to get an extra offensive threat.
However, the Moose never got an opportunity. The Admirals countered their attack and finished the game off with a Rich Peverely goal with three seconds left that bounced off the skate of a Manitoba defender and into the net, giving the Admirals a 2-0 victory.
The win comes after Reid posted another stellar performance at Chicago when he made 27 saves. Reid has now stopped 51 of 52 shots this season.
The Admirals return to action Saturday, Oct. 28, against the Omaha-Ak-Sar-Ben Knights at the Bradley Center. The scheduled start is 7:30 p.m.
