The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Association announced today that it will hold a town hall on the future of UWM’s participation in the Milwaukee County UPass program.
The town hall forum is scheduled for noon and 5 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Union, Room 191.
“Last week, County Executive Scott Walker announced in his 2007 budget an increase in the cost of UPass. Currently, every student enrolled in classes at UWM pays $41 each semester for the UPass program. Walker’s proposal would increase that fee to $44 each semester,” a news release said.
“We want to know if the UPASS program is worth it for our students. We all pay for it, and half of the student population doesn’t even pick it up to use it,” said Kyle Duerstein, director of Legislative Affairs for the Student Association in the release.
Students who cannot make the town hall forums are encouraged to send comments to leg-affairs@uwm.edu.
