Through six weeks of the NFL season, the Packers have had their fair share of tough luck. Somehow, though, there is still reason for optimism. It’s early, and there is plenty of good news coming out of Titletown; unfortunately, there’s plenty of bad news to go with it.

Good news: The Green Bay Packers are coming off of their second best week of the season.

Bad news: It was their bye week.

Good news: The Pack have started 1-4 in each of the last three seasons, and in 2004 they bounced back to finish with a 10-6 record and a division crown.

Bad news: That was pre-Ted Thompson. Last year, when faced with the same horrific start, the Packers managed just three wins in their last 11 games.

Good news: No more Ahmad Carroll.

Bad news: No more Ahmad Carroll. He sucked, but who else is there? Jarrett Bush? Patrick Dendy? Yikes.

Good news: Now 37-year-old quarterback Brett Favre looks good, and could play beyond 2006.

Bad news: It might not be for the Packers. Seriously. Unless Ted Thompson is forced out of town, this thing could get ugly. Ted seems pretty eager to throw unproven backup Aaron Rodgers to the wolves — even at the expense of one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of football.

Good news: The addition of Koren Robinson gives Favre another weapon, and provides the Packers with a proven deep-threat.

Bad news: It’s never good to have Koren Robinson in the same sentence as the words “weapon” and “threat.” Let’s face it, K-Rob is a thug. After being arrested twice for drunk driving, Robinson was recently sentenced to 90 days behind bars by the state of Washington. Additionally, he has a seperate case pending in Minnesota, and is facing a possible (and probable) full-year suspension from the NFL.

Even worse news: Knowing all that, Ted Thompson still signed him.

Good news: The Pack came into the bye week like lambs, and if the month of March has taught us anything, they could come out like lions.

Bad news: They could come in like lambs, and out like the Lions. Detroit is the only team in the NFC North with a worse record than the Packers, and the only team in the NFL with a worse General Manager in Matt Millen.

Good news: The Packers next play the struggling Dolphins, followed by the equally disappointing Cardinals. There’s really no downside to that.
