No really, shut up

Ms. Wiesend, I couldn't agree with you more (“Shut Your Yapper,” Sept. 25).
I, too, have felt the urge to do serious bodily harm to people who think it's OK to carry on a conversation with friends, text message people and/or answer their cell phone in class. Oddly enough, I had to deal with yapping girls (sitting right next to me, of course) in a criminal justice class I took last semester! I was dumbfounded by their blatant disrespect for the instructor, and overall immaturity. But I couldn't get up the nerve to complain to the professor — or to confront the girls.
I have experienced the same rudeness in computer labs and study areas. Believe it or not, kiddies, there are people on campus who are there to study and finish papers and projects. Oh, and to people who feel that it's acceptable to go off on a tangent about your unique philosophical theories or some monumental event in your life when a teacher is trying to hold a class discussion — guess what? It's not OK. Nobody cares! Isn't the point of a class discussion to discuss the material at hand?
I guess when Mommy and Daddy pay your tuition, you can screw around all you want in school. But don't ruin class for those who aren't freeloading off our parents and actually want to get our money's worth out of the university. Do us all a favor and show some respect for the hard-working students on campus.
