No matter what city he’s in, what team he plays for or who his coach is, Terrell Owens seems to find trouble.

T.O.’s latest incident was his alleged suicide attempt. According to Dallas police, it was later known that T.O. was hospitalized because of an “accidental overdose” to pain medication that he was taking for his finger.

I cannot believe people actually thought that Owens might have tried to commit suicide. Are you kidding me? The guy loves himself way too much to do anything to himself. I truly believe that Owens is the most self-centered athlete I have ever seen. He will do anything to draw attention to himself.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane. In 2000 in a game against the Cowboys, T.O. showboats on the star in the middle of Texas Stadium not once, but twice. The second time Cowboys safety George Teague leveled Owens for disrespecting the Cowboys logo.

In 2002 in a game in Seattle, T.O. pulled out a sharpie from his sock, signed the football and tossed it into the stands.

In Super Bowl XXXIX, T.O. ignores every word of advice the doctors gave him and played anyway after fracturing his leg over a month earlier. T.O. said he would play to prove everyone wrong.

In 2005, Owens stated that the Eagles would be better off if Brett Favre was their quarterback rather than Donovan McNabb. Also in 2005, Owens was furious with the Philadelphia Eagles for not putting his accomplishment of making his 100th career touchdown reception on the video screen after a victory over San Diego.

Finally, the Eagles had enough of T.O.’s antics and suspended him for the rest of the season in November.

In March 2006, the owner of the Cowboys Jerry Jones decided to take a chance on Owens, signing him to a three-year deal worth $25 million, even though there were rumors that Cowboys coach Bill Parcells did not want to sign the troubled receiver.

Parcells’ fear was met early in training camp when T.O. missed a stretch of 14 straight workouts in August with an apparent “hamstring injury.” He also was fined during training camp for being late to meetings and oversleeping.

The bottom line is Terrell Owens looks for any kind of attention that he can get. It is unfortunate that Owens was blamed for an attempted suicide attempt but in a way he has created this media cloud that has surrounded him.

On the flip side, the thing about this whole situation is I believe Owens is the most dominant receiver in the NFL. After breaking his leg just a little over a month prior to Super Bowl XXXIX, Owens caught nine catches for 122 yards, which was truly remarkable. Even last weekend against the Tennessee Titans, his first game back after he broke his finger two weeks prior, T.O. made an impact by catching five receptions for 88 yards. In 2000, he set the NFL record with 20 catches in a game. He is also fourth all-time in receiving touchdowns with 102.

With T.O on the field, the Cowboys could definitely make a deep run in the playoffs. You just have to wonder if his antics continue, how long will the Cowboys put up with him?

Terrell Owens is always on television for something other than making a great catch; and it’s really starting to get old.
