'Jackass' just plain stupid

Is ‘Number Two’ worth an hour-and-a-half of sitting?

The stunts in “Jackass Number Two” were not funny-dangerous as they have been in the past; they were just stupid-dangerous.

How far can this really go? I just want to know. When will the boys of “Jackass” say enough is enough? This second serving of “Jackass” features less laughs and more cringes.

I’m not sure when “Jackass” switched from being about weird and random stunts to how much punishment the boys could take, or how easily they could switch careers and become rodeo clowns — but that change is apparent throughout the film, “Jackass Number Two.”

Seeing bulls extract revenge for every rodeo, bullfight and artificial insemination throughout history was pleasant, but why did they only hurt the loving boys of “Jackass?” The gang’s faces are beginning to look like they have been in the NHL since the late ’80s.

The stunts in “Jackass Number Two” were not funny-dangerous as they have been in the past; they were just stupid-dangerous. The boys just tried to see how much of a hospital bill they could rack up during the filming.

Even though their stunts were just stupid, I still found myself laughing through most of this movie. I will say I enjoyed seeing Knoxville, Bam and the rest get the horse crap beaten out of them, quite literally for one member of the crew, but a part of me is saddened by the lack of short weird stunts that they used to pop in between scenes.

There weren’t really any crazy skater stunts in this one; no random sick tricks that all these dangerous hijinks derived from. These simple skate trick scenes are genuinely missed because they served as a break from the shattering of bones, chipping of teeth and bruising of vital organs.

There is great scene with a miniature motorcycle that reminds one of their early skater tricks, but it is far removed from the original.

Since this movie has no plot, well-defined setting, chronology or anything else most major motion pictures or documentaries feature, it’s hard to say that there really was a climax. The final stunt in the film is the longest and does leave everyone in the theater laughing. Bam even begins the scene by saying that this is the best stunt in the film. But was it really?

I don’t think so. Funny as the scene may be, is it the most memorable? Who is Bam to tell the audience that this stunt is the take-all of “Number Two”? Other stunts like Teeter-Totter Rodeo were far funnier, I thought, and defined “Jackass Number Two” far better.

This movie is worth seeing for anyone who enjoyed “Jackass,” “Jackass the Movie,” any other spin-off or the CKY series. They will enjoy the endless hijinks and bodily torture. Everyone else can just wait for every individual scene to appear on YouTube.
