The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Association approved Sunday a series of Senate Appropriations Committee bylaws without objection at its meeting.

Daniel V. Bahr was confirmed as the new committee chair for the Senate Appropriations Committee at the meeting.

The new SAC bylaws include guidelines for funding principles, compliance with segregated fee policy, committee description, membership duties and powers, duties and powers of the SAC vice-chair, legal restrictions of SAC members, application for funding, restrictions for student organizations funding, and violations of the SAC bylaws by student organizations.

A piece of legislation related to Web hosting and leadership software was also approved without objection at the meeting. The resolution will allow student organizations to host a Web site on www.uwmstudents.net. The Web hosting software was described as very easy to use, even with little knowledge of Web site creation and hosting.

Consideration of a second piece of legislation, a growth initiative, was postponed until the next SA meeting. The resolution essentially declares that the Student Association supports “The University’s Growth Agenda for Wisconsin,” proposed by the Board of Regents.

The program aims to generally increase enrollment of students in the UW System. The resolution states that UWM would receive more research funding after the Wisconsin Legislature and governor’s office approves the initiative.

In other announcements, Sen. Amanda Ruppenthal encouraged other senators to get involved in various student organizations and committees.

“I think it’s the best way to get involved,” Ruppenthal said.

“The real action on this campus happens in a committee,” said Russ Rueden, speaker of the Senate. “[It’s] just a wonderful campus experience.”

A Student Association calendar will be considered for approval at the next SA meeting.

The SA meeting was notably short, running about 20 minutes from roll call to adjournment at 6:25 p.m.
