Just like the clothes we wear, what we drive can be seen as an extension of who we are. Thanks to a number of innovative sources, these days automobile owners have more options than ever before to make a vehicle their own.

So, what exactly are some of the most recent developments in automotive accessorizing?

Well, when most people think about customizing their rides, the first and most important thing that comes to mind is wheels.

In the past few years, wheels have been getting bigger and bigger. Not very long ago 20-inch rims were seen as the ultimate automotive must have, but times have changed.

Manufacturers have recently developed rims which measure in at a mind-boggling 28 inches. A set of these mammoth wheels will run the buyer around $2000 a wheel.

Although size does matter when it comes to rims, there is one new cutting-edge product that has been getting a lot of attention.

A company called PimpStar has developed rims featuring LED picture technology which enables the driver to project a graphic of his or her choosing to appear on each rim. The system is hooked up to a microprocessor which lets the driver assign pictures to whichever rim or rims he or she wishes. A set of these will run the driver around $12,000 for a set of 22-inch wheels with the tires included.

Although a lot of focus gets put on the exterior, manufacturers have definitely not forgotten about the interior.

Nowadays car gadgets have become so evolved no one will ever have to give up the comforts of home when they hit the road.

Everything from satellite television to high-speed internet is now available to anyone who is willing to pay the price. Thanks to flat-screen technology, video monitors can now be mounted just about anywhere including sun visors, hand rests, dashboards and roof-mounted flip-down models.

So, if you’ve got the money to customize your ride, there is a wide variety of new technology on the market. However, if you’re like most college students, at least you know what will be available when the day finally comes when you can afford to trade in your beater for an upgrade-worthy set of wheels.
