Sentencing for Munz murder on May 18
The final sentencing for Michael R. Green, the man who pleaded guilty to unintentional homicide of Joe Munz, will be on Friday, May 18.
District Attorney William J. Molitor said Green could receive a maximum penalty of 263 years in prison and 117 years of extended supervision. But, he asked for only 60 years in jail with an undetermined amount of extended supervision.
The sentencing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. at the Milwaukee County Courthouse, Room 634.
UWM men's basketball team is average, academically
The UWM men's basketball team scored just below the national average in academic achievement over the past three years, according to a recent Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report.
If not for a statistical adjustment, the program could have been subject to NCAA sanctions. Currently the NCAA uses the Academic Progress Rate (APR), which charts students' success in the classroom. The men's team accumulated a score of 916, just under the national average of 928.
Sierra Club sues UW-Madison
The Sierra Club filed a lawsuit against the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Thursday, May 4.
The suit claims that the university is illegally operating a 53-year-old power plant that the Sierra Club says is a major source of pollution. The plant in question is located near Camp Randall Stadium and powers four of its five boilers with coal. The Sierra Club was founded in 1892 by John Muir, who studied at UW-Madison.
UWM vice chancellor leaving for Virginia Tech
UWM Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administrative Affairs Sherwood Wilson will be leaving UWM in early summer to take a similar role at Virginia Tech.
Wilson, who has been with UWM since 2005, is a Virginia Tech alumni with a master's of Science degree in Architecture/Construction Management from the school.
UWM arts school dean takes new job
Dean of the Peck School of the Arts Robert Bucker is leaving his job at UWM to take a similar job out West.
Bucker told faculty at Peck that he would be leaving to become Dean of the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication at California State University-Northridge starting Aug. 1. Bucker had been leading the Peck School of the Arts at UWM for the last six years.
