When the Wright State Raiders came into town, they were expecting to finish their three-game series with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and leave on Saturday.
Once again, the weather made the Panthers take a rain check, and the first game of the set was postponed to Sunday.
After wet conditions pushed back the beginning of the first game on Saturday an hour, the Panthers were out of sync, suffering a 12-4 loss at the hands of the Raiders.
Milwaukee was led to battle by Robert Michalkiewicz, who pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on 10 hits. It was the first time Michalkiewicz lost a game in five starts.
Grant Berkovitz drove in all four of the Panthers runs while only going one for three in game one. Nick Wichser was two for four and scored two runs. The other run was scored by catcher Josh Groves.
Despite the setback in game one the Panthers werent going to get beat twice in one day at home. After giving up two runs in the top of the first, Milwaukee rallied for four runs in the bottom of the stanza. Dan Luczak went six full innings in game two, giving up eight hits and six runs, three earned. A combination of Brandon Duffy, Tom Zimmerman, Ben McClarey and Jordan Herbert finished up the deal for Luczak.
Herbert, who came in during the top of the ninth with one man on and nobody out, struck out the side, clinching the victory for the Panthers.
The Panthers scored 12 runs on 14 hits, while the Raiders scored eight runs on nine hits. The Panthers return to action Tuesday, May 1 at 3 p.m. at Henry Aaron Field against Carroll College.
