Through all of you remembering [Tank], my daughter will be able to remember her father and know who he is, said Inglish Grover, holding their 8-month-old daughter, Amira Jackson.
On Tuesday, 50 friends and family gathered together in Spaights Plaza to remember Dimitrius Tank Jackson, 22. He died April 7, after collapsing at a dance in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee earlier that night
He was taking time off from UWM, but friends said he was planning on coming back and graduating soon with a degree in occupational therapy.
Leading the ceremony, Black Student Union President Kenny Curtis reminded everyone of the value of life.
You can never take your life for granted because you never know when youll take your last breath, Curtis said.
After a moment of silence, friends laughed together as they remembered how much Tank made them laugh.
He always made me laugh and, if you ever having a bad day, hell always bring a smile to your face, one friend hidden in the crowd said.
Before the vigil, Elyse Anernathy, who graduated with Tank from Riverside High School, remembered Tank running down the court playing basketball while she cheered from the sideline.
The way his energy was, no one ever would have thought he would have an enlarged heart, said Anernathy. He looked like he was healthy.
