The Pad Thai seems simple and traditional, but you can never go wrong with thick noodles covered with a spicy peanut sauce and paired with sprouts, cucumber and lettuce. Crushed peanuts garnish the top. To me, this is comfort food.
Whenever I go to a restaurant that I have eaten at before and I just about have the menu memorized, I always know what I am going to order before I step foot in the door.
Unless there is a special that night, I am usually eating the same things. Sure I love trying new things, but my staple somehow always ends up on the table and in a very short time, in my belly.
Its just like those of you who eat at McDonalds, (I feel really bad for you and your arteries,) you know once you enter the door that you are getting the six piece Chicken McNuggets, large fry and a carbonated beverage.
The taste has become familiar to you and therefore turns into your dining-out staple food. Milwaukee has some great restaurants. If and when you visit them, you must be sure to order tasty treats such as the Tostadas Florentina at Cempazuchi and the Cheddar and Jalapeno brat at the Beer and Brat Station at Whole Foods Market.
Eat these, and your taste buds will be hooked.
Tostadas Florentina @ Cempazuchi
Two tostadas are piled high with warm sautéed spinach underneath a large dollop of creamy goat cheese. Intermixed are avocado scallions and red tomato salsa.
Add the complimentary spicy peanut salsa that you get with your chips, (it is always in the yellow bowl,) and you have yourself a Mexican meal bursting with tons of rich and mildly spicy flavors.
Las Brisas Burger @ Elsas on the Park
Elsas has a moderately large menu, but dont bother trying anything else before you get the Las Brisas burger. Accompanied with homemade waffle fries, fruit and some raw veggies, the Las Brisas burger is always made to absolute perfection.
Ground beef is grilled to your liking, (order it medium rare in order to ensure a juicy meal,) and topped with a medium salsa, avocado, onions, lettuce, gooey Monterey Jack cheese and some jalapenos to top it off.
The burger is gigantic and I am always amazed that I can finish the entire creation; but once you order it, no matter the size of your stomach or appetite, it will be finished in under 15 minutes â?¦ its just that good.
Pad Thai @ Singha Tai II
If you like peanut butter you will love this dish. Whenever I dont feel like cooking or I dont want to put on makeup and sit down for an hour and a half at a restaurant, I stay in my sweats, go to Singha Tai II, and ask for my food to go. They are happy to do it and your food always comes fast, which ensures a happy customer.
The Pad Thai seems simple and traditional, but you can never go wrong with thick noodles covered with a spicy peanut sauce and paired with sprouts, cucumber and lettuce. Crushed peanuts garnish the top. To me, this is comfort food.
Godzilla Maki Roll @ Sake TuMi
The lack of true sushi restaurants in Milwaukee makes choosing the best a controversial topic of conversation. I will never give up my stance that Sake TuMi is the sushi restaurant to eat at in our town. Every time you order, the Godzilla Maki roll should come to your table.
Just thinking about this makes me want to take my laptop to their bar, get a Godzilla and finish my article while indulging in pure raw fish ecstasy. The Godzilla is compiled of tempura shrimp rolled with an abundance of green veggies such as avocado, cucumber and scallions.
The creaminess is made with cream cheese and many wonderful and hot spices. It is drizzled with a wasabi sauce and each individual piece is portioned perfectly to pick up with chop sticks and stick entirely in your mouth. Little bites of maki do not do this dish justice. Take big bites to get all of the heat and crispness of the veggies at once.
Cheddar and Jalapeno Brat @ Whole Foods Market
Head on over to the beer and brat station across from the meat counter at Whole Foods and ask for this amazing brat. I have to admit, I am not a cheddar type of gal. If I eat cheese, it has to be feta or goat or something fancy from France, but after eating this brat, I cannot get enough.
Made fresh on site daily, everything you eat is all natural. The brat almost seems to melt in your mouth as the bits of cheddar explode and the mildness of the jalapenos gives it a nice bite. Ask for a side of the baked beans. I dont know what they do to them, but I do know that I always want more.
