The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee landed a league-high 12 student athletes on the Winter Academic All-Horizon League team, officials announced last Tuesday.
The Panthers were represented by members of both the mens and womens swimming and diving teams, and the mens and womens indoor track and field teams, respectively.
From the mens indoor track and field team, Justin Bohler, Larry Ehrhorn and Adam Schleis all earned first-time honors. All three contributed to the team winning the Horizon League Indoor Championships for the fourth straight year.
Likewise from the womens side, Kourtney Nault, Holly Nearman and Jenni Saarinen also all earned first-time honors. Nault led the way for the Panthers second-straight title at the Horizon League Indoor Championships by scoring in three events.
Karl Winderl was honored from the mens swimming team for the second-straight year, while teammates Robby Leibold and David Yugo were honored for the first time. Winderl is coming off a senior season that saw him set personal-bests in the 500 and 1650 freestyle.
The womens team followed suit with three honoree of their own. Lindsay Caldwell was named to the team for a third time and Emma McKeith a second. Crystal Szymanski received the honor for the first time. Caldwells senior season ended with her winning Horizon League Championship swimmer of the meet honors, also for the third straight season.
It is great to see the academic success of our student athletes, UWM head coach Dave Griffore said.
For a student-athlete to gain consideration for the Academic All-Horizon League team, they must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher, and have completed at least one year at the institution having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
