Dreaming of a white Christmas was supposed to be months ago. Now were dreaming of a white ballgame?
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team had its series with Youngstown State pushed back because of inclement weather. This is the sixth time baseball has been postponed or canceled due to bad weather, the highest among all the sports teams at UWM.
Robert Michalkiewicz, who pitched a shutout last week at Miller Park against Butler, was scheduled to pitch this weekend, as was ace Mike Rauwerdink.
Instead of scrapping the entire series altogether, the Panthers instead hosted the Penguins yesterday at Henry Aaron Field. The doubleheader was scheduled to begin at noon.
Both the Friday and Saturday games were postponed. Two games of the series were to be played yesterday, with the final game of the series being played at Youngstown State on May 11. That weekend, the Panthers play their visiting series against the Penguins. What was a three-game series has been increased to four.
The Panthers (6-19, 5-5 Horizon) will take the field against the University of Illinois-Chicago, Tuesday at Henry Aaron Field. For those students who would like to attend the game, Henry Aaron Field is situated on the corner of Hampton Avenue and Green Bay Avenue.
The Panthers will be looking for retribution after UIC took a doubleheader from the Panthers last Tuesday in Milwaukee.
Other events postponed, too
The UWM Panthers track teams meet at the Marquette Invitational was cancelled due to the snow that dumped on Wisconsin last week.
Both the mens and womens team received the weekend off.
This was the first track and field event of the season that was canceled for the Panthers, who will use the time to get ready for next weekends action in Big 12 country.
Last week, both mens and womens teams took home third out of eight along with the breaking of several personal records on both teams.
The weekend off gives the teams extra time to practice for their upcoming meet, which takes place this weekend in Lawrence, Kan., for the Kansas Relays.
