The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukees womens tennis team capped off its most successful season in 10 years with a 4-3 win over Youngstown State Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (11-9, 3-4 Horizon League) wrapped up the regular season by matching their most overall victories since the 1996-1997 season and likely securing their highest league finish since 1997-1998.

This was a good way to cap off what has been a very good regular season, said UWM head coach Matt McCaskill. Well now get rested and get ready for some success in the league tournament.

Saturdays gutsy performance over the Penguins was ignited by Ali ONeal, who continued her outstanding freshman season by setting a new school record with her 17th singles win of the season. She also paired up with teammate Samantha Drews for a doubles victory, which turned out to be the decisive point of the match.

Freshman Kelly Drvaric also dug deep to capture a No. 1 singles win against YSU.

Milwaukee bounced back Saturday after losing to Cleveland State 7-0 the day before. The Panthers never could get on track against the Vikings, who won all six singles matches and all three doubles contests en route to the win.

Cleveland State was a solid team that just came in and pounded us, said McCaskill. But, it was totally a different story against Youngstown. Ali and Sam really set the tone for us with their doubles win, while Kelly and Ali came through in singles.

The Horizon League tournament is set for April 28 and 29 in Indianapolis.
