Candidates brief if no story comes in.

Ziegler, McGee victorious in spring elections

Washington County Circuit Judge Annette Ziegler was voted into the Wisconsin Supreme Court, and 6th District Ald. Michael McGee avoided being recalled on the spring general election held Tuesday, April 3.

Ziegler defeated attorney Linda Clifford of Madison for the seat of retiring Justice Jon P. Wilcox. In other news, McGee survived a recall effort to retain his position as 6th District alderman in the city of Milwaukee with 64 percent of the vote, according to the city of Milwaukees election commission.

Milwaukee alderman proposes plans to make Milwaukee safer

Milwaukee 8th District Ald. Bob Donovan has proposed an eight-point plan for making Milwaukee safer that includes sending in National Guard military police and creating new positions in the Milwaukee Police Department.

In a letter sent to Mayor Tom Barrett last month, Donovan said that Milwaukee is facing a public safety crisis and is calling on support from the mayor as well as Gov. Jim Doyle to help the city out.

The proposal also includes requests to add a fourth police class of 66 recruits, and would allow officers assigned to desk duty to be put on street patrols on a weekly basis.
