The term grindhouse refers to the type of theatre that showed low-budget exploitation and pornographic films in the pre-home video days.

They were usually located in the seedier parts of town and often showed double and triple features for the price of a single ticket.

Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez sought to recreate this idea for 21st century audiences, complete with fake trailers and advertisements between the films. They are showing two independently produced films in a three-hour block that promises all the thrills, spills and chills of the old grindhouse theatres.

The trailers and advertisements between films add a lot to the theatre experience.

Among the highlights are Rodriguezs own trailer for the assassins revenge tale Machete, Rob Zombies bizarre Nicolas Cage vehicle Werewolf Superwomen of the SS and Eli Roths trailer for the incredibly disturbing fake slasher film Thanksgiving thats sure to leave everyone in the theatre wincing at the fate of that poor cheerleader who never even saw it coming.
