The revival of the ballet flat

In â??07, itâ??s toe cleavage

By Miranda Agee

This year itâ??s all about cleavage, toe cleavage that is.This year itâ??s all about cleavage, toe cleavage that is.

With the warm weather that spring sets upon us- shoes, of the toe-baring variety, start to pop up on fashionistas everywhere.

Last year, the wooden and cork wedge was the shoe to adorn your perfectly pedicured toes. This year its all about cleavage, toe cleavage that is. Save your money and skip the bi-weekly pedicure because ballet flats are back.

Ballet flats are in a category all of their own. With a rounded toe and flexible sole, they deem comfort as haute couture.

Depending on the color, ballet flats can be appropriate for all occasions. For the office, choose black leather, (not patent leather, that was so fall 06), flats with a more structured look.

Unless you are a risk taker willing to risk your employment status, save your metallic and jewel-toned flats for a martini and dessert night with the girls. A chic restaurant or any club on Milwaukee Street is the right place to show everyone that you are indeed a style guru.

There are two important things to remember when planning your outfits this spring. First, put the leopard print flats back in the shoe box and underneath the bed. Leopard was hot for fall and winter but not for spring 07.

Dont worry; leopard makes a comeback this upcoming fall so they will definitely see the light of day again. Last, no white flats until after midnight on May 28. This is one of the 10 style commandments and in no way should it be taken lightly. White shoes, before Memorial Day, are tacky and vulgar.

Any way that you decide to wear them, if they have a rounded toe and a flat sole you and your ballet flats will be tres chic for spring.
