In the latest addition to the Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) saga, we find our favorite shopper pregnant and busy as ever. Having landed a job at the newest big store in London, The Look, Becky is right in her element.

Sophie Kinsella, New York Times“ best-selling author of the wildly popular “Shopaholic” series, has just release the fifth book, “Shopaholic & Baby.”

With over 7 million copies in print, the “Shopaholic” series is a favorite with women of every age, because admit it, what“s better than spending money on a book about spending too much money?

The “Shopaholic” series is probably the definition of chic-lit, those guilty pleasure books about shopping, weird but not perverse love triangles, and then some more shopping. “Shopaholic & Baby” more than fulfills all the chic-lit requirements, and Kinsella has once again written a goofy, un-put down-able, “literary” must-have.

In the latest addition to the Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) saga, we find our favorite shopper pregnant and busy as ever. Having landed a job at the newest big store in London, The Look, Becky is right in her element. Never mind the fact that the store has been plagued with bad luck since its opening and no one ever shops there.

She and husband Luke are on a quest for the perfect house (and who else could manage real-estate negotiations with a must-have boot?), and she“s even landed the celebrity obstetrician who has just arrived in London from Hollywood.

The only hitch is finding out that her new doctor, Venetia Carter, is Luke“s ex-girlfriend. One thing readers must concede is that Becky is more than a little dense, and this tiny bit of information does not seem too terribly important until Venetia starts organizing lunches with Luke and sending him late-night text messages.

“Shopaholic & Baby” also brings back some favorite characters from previous books including designer Danny Kovitz, currently the hottest designer since Marc Jacobs and, of course Jess, Becky“s new-found, organic-or-bust sister. Dare I reveal that there“s a possible love interest for Jess?

The latest installment of the “Shopaholic” series has certainly lived up to the buzz. Of course not all readers are familiar with the ins and outs of the baby world (designer prams, 400 thread-count linens, etc.), but the baby journey is made a lot more fun and silly with Becky in tow.

Hopefully the rumors are not true that this is the final installment on Becky, but if so, perhaps we will see a continuation of Kinsella“s other books “The Undomestic Goddess” or “Can You Keep a Secret?”

Personally, I could keep reading about Becky until she“s old and grey, well “ as long as she keeps shopping and getting herself into ridiculous calamities.
