There is some awesome detail put into these vehicles that are as simple as walking and jumping to flying and jet-dodging. Overall there are 15 different weapons your character can wield not including grenades or Mechs.

Capcom“s latest take in the third-person genre, “Lost Planet,” is an interesting one. Players take on the role of Wayne, a soldier who loses his memory, in this Xbox 360 game.

Wayne winds up working for a trio of survivors trying to reclaim the planet. First is the Akrid, a bugish race more visually beautiful than in “Starship Troopers.” Also included is the Snow Pirates, other survivors intent on holding onto what land they“re able to.

The game combines both third-person shooters with Mech game play flawlessly. Every enemy that Wayne kills drops thermal energy, which constantly decreases due to the harsh environments. This is unique because it compels players to shoot their way through levels rather than taking their dear sweet time.

The levels are structured so that at the end of each one, you end up facing off against a boss, much in lieu of old-school “path to the boss” games that third-person action games such as “Devil May Cry” and “Ninja Gaiden” have incorporated.

The Vital Suit, or VS, is a Mech roughly four times larger than your average character. There is some awesome detail put into these vehicles that are as simple as walking and jumping to flying and jet-dodging.

Overall there are 15 different weapons your character can wield, not including grenades or Mechs.

As far as multiplayer goes, the 16-player action is flawless on Xbox Live with no noticeable lag spikes or bumps. At your disposal are the very Mechs and weapons found in the single player.

There are eight different maps to choose from (nine in the special edition) and four game types: Fugitive, Elimination, Team Elimination and Post Grab. Each map and mode has a unique and fresh feel to it. Matches are easy to jump into and can last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes.

Capcom has put out a solid game, including fun missions that don“t feel as though you need to conserve your ammo. The only small flaws of the game are slightly dumb AI and rather long missions.

“Lost Planet” is a fun romp in the snow that keeps the action coming and stays fresh.
