Playmate, reality show diva, actress, businesswoman, tragic beauty.
These words describe the legacy left behind by Anna Nicole Smith. Above the ditzy blonde bombshell, she embodied more than her infamous Marilyn Monroe look-a-like status.
Whether or not she planned it, she grabbed Hollywood by the horns and took the public for a ride.
From the moment her Guess ads appeared on billboards nationwide, we were hooked. Her “gold digging” habits with her 90-year-old oil tycoon husband, J. Howard Marshall, made us take a second look. The world didn“t adopt a true Anna addiction until her drunken escapades at the American Music Awards in late 2004.
But what made this woman so different from the rest? She was entertaining the world every day of her waking life “ consciously or unconsciously. Now that she“s passed, we“re still captivated. Her life is the epitome of every soap opera we“ve ever seen rolled into one.
The latest bit? Who“s Dannielynn“s father, Howard K. Stern or Larry Birkhead? With no mother, and a who-knows-who-he-is father, this little girl with her dead brother“s name is becoming one messed-up kid, and she can“t even talk yet.
The world is also waiting for a cause of death. The rumor mill says she died of a drug overdose, she choked in her own vomit or she killed herself. “The medical examiner who performed an autopsy on Smith's body said it could take weeks to determine the cause of death,” says Yahoo! News.
Joshua Perper, the Broward County medical examiner, said no illegal drugs were discovered in the 39-year-old Smith's room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood where she collapsed.
Either way, the world misses Anna. Unlike when Princess Diana died, Smith“s passing isn“t seeing flower-coated memorials or public outcries, but the blogosphere displays the public“s reaction like an explosion.
Yahoo! News reports: “YouTube has logged hundreds of thousands of hits on Anna Nicole videos, including some fan-produced tributes. One fan put a message on Craigslist seeking others touched by the starlet's death for a candlelight vigil in New York's Union Square.”
Even with Anna Nicole“s death, the world wants more of her in any shape possible. The gossip-spreading keeps her alive.
As far as the entertainment industry goes, there hasn“t been--and never will be--another Anna Nicole Smith. No other celebrity has left such a deep scar in the media because her life was a rollercoaster the world couldn“t stop watching.
Now it“s up to Lindsay Lohan and her rehab antics to keep us entertained. Anna, we miss you already.
