As fall blows in, we are inevitably barraged by countless commercials for the new television shows of the season. “Vanished,” introduced by Fox, is a mystery/thriller clearly influence by “The Da Vinci Code.” Fox says “Vanished” is a combination of “CSI” and “24.”
“Vanished,” based in Atlanta, revolves around the disappearance of Sara Collins, the young wife of Senator Jeffrey Collins. She goes missing during a charity benefit and the FBI quickly begins a “Without a Trace”-style hunt. The investigation into her disappearance promises to “expose evidence that could rock the foundations of American society,” according to Fox.
Questions are raised when Sen. Collins’ daughter Marcy finds a bloody sweatshirt and a backpack full of money in her boyfriend’s possession. After Marcy gives the FBI a swatch of the sweatshirt, the blood is identified as that of Sara’s captor.
Another story thread follows the wife of Atlanta’s previous mayor showing up dead 10 years after her disappearance.
There is also the reoccurring use of the number nine, much like ABC’s hit “Lost” uses “the numbers.” Their significance has yet to be revealed. All said, “Vanished” offers cheap thrills but enough plot twists to keep viewers tuning in on Mondays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
