This September, the FX network is returning to the glitzy streets of Miami for a much-needed facelift with the new season of “Nip/Tuck.”
Boasting several high-profile guest stars like Brooke Shields, Rosie O’Donnell, Kathleen Turner and Larry Hagman, the series is returning to its former glory, which was overshadowed by season three’s stale serial killer plot.
One of the best television promos in recent memory has doctors McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Troy (Julian McMahon) entering an operating theater to install arms on the “Venus de Milo,” which proceeds to bleed like a human. It perfectly sums up the approach of the new season, in its never-ending analysis of the price of vanity, the nature of physical perfection and the cost of happiness at any price.
Once again, the show spares no expense with lavish sets and exotic locations, making “Nip/Tuck” one of the most visually rich shows in television history. It also maintains its title as one of the most provocative shows on cable, and takes full advantage of the flexible standards and envelope-pushing nature of the FX network.
This silicone- and Botox-fueled melodrama seeks to prove nothing is taboo with plenty of operating-room gore, mercilessly sharp writing and more sex than a Hustler magazine. A truly decadent modern masterpiece, “Nip/Tuck” seeks to once more tantalize its cult following, which was turned off by some of last season’s uncharacteristically mainstream plots.
The doctors are in, as this season promises one more round of disturbingly perfect drama.
“Nip/Tuck” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on FX.
