Meatwad: â??Money â?? if you got it umm / I wanna get some steady b----es and hoes / And some candy for my nose / Some diamond stones, to roll with my chrome and â?¦â?
Most people are familiar with, if not enthusiasts of, the Cartoon Network“s late-night Adult Swim. What many people are not familiar with is the extent of Adult Swim“s influence.
Daniel Dumile recognized the potential of the Adult Swim characters and created a new breed of hip-hop superstars. Most people are more familiar with Dumile“s stage names: Zev Love X, Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah and, most famously, MF Doom. As MF Doom, he joined forces with DJ Danger Mouse to create DangerDoom.
In 2005 DangerDoom released the album “The Mouse and the Mask.” With the help of frequent advertising on Adult Swim, “The Mouse and the Mask” moved MF Doom in a more mainstream direction.
The album includes characters from “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” “Ghostface,” “Space Ghost,” and features artists Ghostface Killah, Cee-Lo and Talib Kweli.
Initially listening to the CD, one might be reminded of an awkward TV commercial for the late-night cartoon crew. Upon closer examination, however, listeners realize DangerDoom created a clever and amusing collaboration.
In the first song, “El Chuba Nibre,” Master Shake leaves a voice message for DangerDoom, which is followed up with a few more messages during songs four, seven and 14.
Although other Adult Swim characters make appearances throughout the album, the Aqua Teen“s cameo appearances are definitely the funniest. For example, Meatwad breaks into a rap at the beginning of song seven, easily one of the best songs on the album, called A.T.H.F. (Aqua Teen Hunger Force).

Song six, “Old School Rules,” which features Talib Kweli, is also one of the highlights of the CD. The song talks about watching cartoons as a child and the childhood nostalgia of the animated characters. Overall, the song is upbeat with highly catchy tune. “Old School Rules” was also released as a single last summer.
Also in 2006, DangerDoom released “Occult Hymn” as a free download on Adult Swim“s Web site.
Although DangerDoom does not follow the typical style and rhythm of many popular hip-hop artists, their unique style and collaboration with the Adult Swim characters solidifies the creative genius that sets them apart.
