As the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men“s track and field team flexed its muscles, the women“s team decided to show off its fancy footwork as both teams competed in the Madison Elite Invitational on Jan. 27.

For the men, junior Larry Erhorn claimed top honors in both the shot put and weight throw. Erhorn heaved the shot put just three-fourths of an inch in front of senior teammate Nick Wichert.

The Panthers dominated the weight throw competition as Erhorn, Wichert and senior Nick Gretz finished first, second and third, respectively.

Sophomore Adam Schleis set a new school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.21. The previous school record was 8.22, which stood for almost seven years. Senior Trentin Edwards added to the Panthers success by finishing second in the 60m and 200m sprints.

Edwards was also a member of the Panthers“ second-place 4x400m relay team. The combination of Edwards, senior Jeremy Majors and freshmen Taylor Bucholz and Isaiah Adams finished in a time of 3:20:45.

The women were led by senior Timeka Walker as she dashed past the competition, finishing first in both the 60m and 200m events.

Sophomores Beth Zimmerman and Kicha Cary each broke Zimmerman“s school record in the triple jump, which she set the prior weekend. Zimmerman destroyed her old school record by an outrageous seven inches while Cary finished just one inch shy of Zimmerman“s new record.

Sophomore Holly Nearman commanded the Panthers“ fourth first-place finish, out-distancing the field in the 5,000m. Senior Kourtney Nault claimed second place in the event, finishing a just a little more than a second behind Nearman.

The meet did not record team scores.

Both squads will head to Ames, Iowa, to participate in the Cyclone Classic at Iowa State University Feb. 9 and 10.
