The perfect Super Bowl party consists of more than just good food and watching the game at your friend’s duplex. The perfect decorations will set the mood and in turn show how much effort you put into making this Super Bowl one to remember.

However, no matter how much you want to deck out your duplex with blue and orange, the lack of funds is usually what keeps the walls bare.

Decorating is expensive and chances are you end up throwing everything out the next day. With these easy and student-friendly tips, you can embellish your space without breaking the bank.

When it comes to setting up for your party, your food spread can also serve as part of the décor. Keep it buffet style and adorn it with colorful and cheap decorations.

Your local Dollar Store (320 E. Capitol Drive) gives you the most bang for your college buck. A package of 50 orange cups, six navy plates or a pack of 200 napkins are only a $1 each. Stick with one team’s colors and buy your supplies around that. Don’t forget to purchase disposable silverware. Not only will is spice up your party, but you can also skip washing dishes.

Balloons are also fun and bring back memories of our old party days (piñata anyone?). The Dollar Store, or any party supplies store, now sells balloons that can be filled with helium while you’re there. Another option is to buy the package of balloons in a bag, blow them up, and tape them around your doorways and tables.

Streamers are another easy and cheap way to decorate. A roll of streamers will cost you about $1 or $2. With that price you don’t have to feel like you wasted money when you throw them away after the game is over.

Stick with the same two colors of streamers that you used with your plates and balloons and put them back to back before you start twisting. Line the ceiling, loop around your tables and stick them anywhere they don’t obstruct the view of the TV.

Don’t forget to buy a roll of tape to hang them up with otherwise you will have a sea of streamers at your feet.

Decorating is meant to be fun. Don’t take it too seriously or stress if everything doesn’t look right. Remember in situations like these, where tons of people are coming to yell at the TV and eat the food you slaved over, less is more.
