Intramural sports have started up for the spring semester, and it’s a great way to get active and involved with in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Even the Post has made up a volleyball team. We are looking forward to an exciting season of tears and nervous twitches every time a ball comes our way.

Volleyball, of course, isn’t the only option there is. Basketball is a popular choice for a lot of UWM students. Options include same-sex or co-ed teams. But there is a rule in which there needs to be same number of males as there are females on teams that are co-ed.

But of course as everyone was assured during freshmen orientation that as long as you have a group of people, a will and a dream, you can make it so at UWM.

Intramural sports do not fall out of this line of thinking. You could make up any team you wanted with any sport in mind (say, indoor cricket) or sports popularized by movies such as dodge ball.

To make an intramural team you have to have students who can access the Klotsche Center. If you want to be part of a team sport, you have to sign up as a team.

To register, you need to bring your team roster and a forfeit fee to the Intramural Desk, which is located at the Klotsche Information Center, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. during the first three weeks of the semester. There are deadlines for each sport, along with the possibility of the sport you are interested in filling up before its selected deadline.

If you just don’t know a lot of people who aren’t willing to exchange a night of doing nothing for some high-action competitive sport, you can attend the captain’s meetings and ask if there are any teams short of members.

So if you are looking for something to fill those lonely nights instead of watching TV in your dorm, eating Ramen and working hard on the freshmen 15, intramural sports is certainly an option. Think about it.
