Soap is used everyday, yet most people put little thought into it. It can be easy and convenient to simply run to Walgreen’s and pick up any inexpensive bar of generic antibacterial bar soap. These soaps are extremely drying to the skin and do little to enhance the daily cleansing experience. Bar soap doesn’t have to be boring and second-rate to heavily favored liquid body washes. There are some great lines of bar soaps that are surprisingly luxurious and make the daily bathing experience a more enjoyable one.

Bliss – Big Blue Bar

12.3 oz. bar is $16

New York’s hottest spa Bliss released this line of bath and beauty products. The Big Blue Bar foams up fluffy and has an intense lemon verbena fragrance. It has a textured massaging surface that helps to detangle tight muscles and stimulates circulation. The bar is hard-milled with a vegetable oil base which means the bar won’t get soft as it ages and it will last longer than the average soap. This is a great soap that both guys and girls can enjoy.

Bliss – Mammoth Minty Scrub Bar

12.3 oz. bar is $16

The Mammoth Minty Scrub Bar is Bliss’ best selling bar. The Bliss website claims it will take a bland bath from drab to fab. It has a powerful peppermint scent that helps wake up the skin in the mornings. The mammoth bar has massaging nubs on one side that help to scrub away dry winter skin. The bar is made with 3 percent natural mint oil and exfoliating jojoba beads that help smooth, stimulate and spark circulation. This is also a bar that both guys and girls will love.

Bliss products can be purchased at Sephora or www.blissworld.com.

L’Occitane – Shea Butter Extra Gentle Soap

8.8 oz. bar is $10

L’Occitane is famous for its Provencal-inspired soaps that reflect the highest standards in skincare. The Shea Butter Extra Gentle Soap is perfect for everyday use. It is completely vegetable-oil-based that is enriched with nourishing shea butter. The soap is non-irritating so it is perfect for sensitive skin. It comes in three distinctly different scents: verbena, milk, and lavender. L’Occitane is committed to supporting economic recovery. They work directly with women’s shea-processing collectives in western Africa — another inspiring reason to support this product. L’Occitane products can be purchased in store at Mayfair Mall or online at www.loccitane.com.

Burt’s Bees – Citrus Spice Exfoliating Soap

4 oz. bar is $5

The Citrus Spice Exfoliating Soap is made of ground herbs, almonds and spices. It provides a gentle, yet highly effective exfoliation of dead skin cells left behind by the winter cold. The bar has a mild abrasive texture than cleans the skin and pores which leaves the skin feeling rejuvenated and tingling. This soap has been made popular due to its classic scent that is a perfect blend of orange, patchouli and cinnamon essential oils. This popular brand of products can be found at most drugstores and supermarkets, as well as online at www.burtsbees.com.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps

5 oz. bar is $3.50

Dr. Bronner’s line of organic soaps is famous for being made completely cruelty-free, even the wrapper is made of 90 percent recycled paper. The ingredients are completely natural and organic. All the ingredients purchased to manufacture the soaps are from sources that follow fair trade rules. The best selling All-One Hemp Pure-Castile Soap comes in eight different scents; each does something a little different. The most popular scent is peppermint, which helps wake up the skin in the morning. The lavender scent is very calming, and the tea tree scent has excellent anti-fungal properties. The other available scents are unscented, baby-mild, almond, lemon, rose and eucalyptus. These soaps are great for all skin types, but should not be used on the face. Dr. Bronner’s brand soaps can be found at most organic supermarkets, specifically Whole Foods.
