The editorial section is a favorite for many readers because the articles deal with personal thoughts on popular issues. They question peoples’ beliefs and give a one-sided view on a diversity of topics.
But diversity is a word not understood to Devon Marie Wiesend. In her article “Let me conversate with you” she discusses her extreme disgust for students who like to socialize without the use of proper grammar.
She also complains about the noise level in conversations on the UW-Milwaukee campus.
Devon seems to think that UWM should instead apply the same speech policies of a library. In her mind, the UWM Union should be filled with middle-upper class white students from the suburbs who lack the social skills to even speak to one another in public.
Just imagine, during these times of antisocial behaviors, Devon would like to promote an unfriendly lifestyle on a college campus of all places.
Her article is filled with blatant overtones of sheer ignorance with quotes like, “The ones I’ve noticed are loud, obnoxious, unrefined and appear uneducated.”
Devon is displaying to the readers her lack of diversity and misunderstanding of different cultures. The irony is how such an ignorant girl can attempt to complain about what she thinks of as ignorance.
She continues to discredit herself by writing in her article that she actually agrees with a very racist definition of a slang term found on a non-reputable website.
Please show some tolerance for your peers. Be aware of everyone’s background and culture. Diversity is our strength.
