I am student at UW-Milwaukee, and I wanted to a make a comment about the article titled "Let me conversate with you" by Devon Marie Wiesend.

After reading this article I am very offended because it is racist and just plain stupid. A perfect example of this is she makes an assumption that Milwaukee Public Schools are producing graduates that can not speak proper English effectively. This also gives the idea that urban schools which have a large minority population of students are not able to succeed in college.

I am personally an African-American male and I went to MPS until eighth grade, and I graduated from UW-Milwaukee three years ago with my bachelor's degree. Now I am back to pursue an advanced degree.

The point that I am trying to make is I am product of public schools and I succeed in college and I know a lot of minority students how have done well in college and they have a great command of the English language.

Another thing to remember is white people and other racial groups say "Let me conversate with you" all the time so it is not just black people who say this.

I believe this article can be harmful in how minority students might be viewed inferior to their white counterparts.
