After Leanne Felsing’s senior year in high school, she was named a first-team All-State performer at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. As one of the best players in the state, she decided to stay close to home and picked the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Lucky for UWM, she has been phenomenal in her first two seasons with the team.
It was a great fit for Felsing and the Panthers from the start.
As a freshman outside hitter, she started every match. She played well enough to earn her the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year award and was member of the Horizon League's All-Newcomer Team.
She also finished second on the team in kills with 280 and finished third in digs with 289.
Her success early in her career didn’t just happen overnight. Ever since she was 11 years old, she was playing club volleyball. Her mother was a volleyball coach, so she was always around volleyball.
A part of why she is so successful is that she has a drive to be the best and is always looking to improve.
After taking a back seat last year to Horizon League player of the year Karen Fruit, she learned a lot from watching Fruit play and has applied it in her game this year.
Sharing time at setter with Melissa Lange early in the season while also playing a front row attacker, Felsing earned a place in the UWM record book. This season she has tallied six triple-doubles, which is double-digit totals in kills, digs and assists.
That's more than any other Panthers player has collected in one season — or even in a career — in the school's Division I history.
In fact, only one other UWM player has even had two career triple-doubles, with Lindsey Spoden recording a pair of them during the 2003 season. UWM has now had just 13 triple-doubles since 1990.
Felsing has also recorded double-doubles in 17 of the Panthers 22 games.
