Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee were defeated Thursday at the Madison Invitational.

The Invitational pitted UWM against Big Ten opponents Wisconsin and Iowa. The men fell 201-42 to Wisconsin and 163-78 to Iowa. The women lost 184-59 to Wisconsin and 172-71 to Iowa.

“We were going against two Big Ten teams that have swimmers who qualify for the NCAA Championships on a regular basis and we competed very well with them,” Milwaukee head coach Dave Clark said. “We seem to be at a higher pace than we were a year ago at this point in the season.”

Recording a solid individual performance in the 200 butterfly was sophomore Chase Gravengood, who finished third with a time of 1:56.84.

In the 100 freestyle, senior Tim Watt was able to manage a fifth-place finish with 23.49.

For the men’s divers, senior Jeff Jasinowski finished in the top five in both events. He received fourth place in the one-meter event and fifth in the three-meter board event.

On the women’s side, the divers finished well, with five receiving top 10 finishes in the three-meter event. Senior Erin Blemberg won the three-meter event and placed third in the one-meter.

Besides Blemberg’s first-place finish in the three-meter event, teammate Crystal Szymanski received fourth, while Emily Duesler finished sixth.

In swimming, the women’s highest finish was third. It came from junior Lindsay Caldwell in the 50 freestyle. She finished with a time of 24.50, closely following the first-place time of 24.21.

Both squads will host a home meet against Northwestern at 4 p.m. Friday at the Klotsche Center.
